What’s the big deal about celebrites having babies?

All people in the media seems to talk about these days are the A list celebrities that are pregnant  and having a baby. Celebrities like Matthew Mcconaughey, Jessica Alba, the unbelievably dull Ashelle Simpson, Angelina Jolie and others are all people want to talk about.  Less than 10 years ago having a baby at an age of 21 like Britney Spears would have been a career killer but now there is a booming economy around this baby bump frenzy  that seems to be the latest rage in Hollywood. So if your a actress looking for more press , have a baby and you’ll become even more famous!

What puzzles me is stories like People magazine paying nearly 6 million dollars for photos of Jenifer Lopez’s twins. 6 million dollars? For what? They kids are going to look completely different in 5 months, they won’t even have the same faces…what is going on here? Angelina is on a baby making and adopting rampage and anything related to her  children makes font page news. The actress Mia Farrow was adopting children from all over the world decades ago, and even though many saw it as a sweet gesture she was no longer seen as sexy, interesting, or worth any media attention for her efforts. Has anyone noticed that none of these A-list actors seem to bring home big numbers at the box office anymore but the frenzy around their personal lives is what’s keeping them on top? So I wonder how much of this isn’t just another tactic to get more press?

I think the reason the media makes such a huge deal over Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s bizarre baby obsession is  for one reason only, because they are hot. I am in no way saying that all the good that they do isn’t something all people celebrity or not shouldn’t admire. I am very proud of how generous and vocal they are about trying to make a difference in the world. The sad reality is that all of the hype about baby bumps and celebrity children is all about exploiting celebs and their unborn children because that’s what in at the moment. The reality of Angie and Brad who have millions of dollars and perks at their disposal is not the reality for everyday hard working families.  No normal person on a typical American household income can acquire 6 kids in less than 5 years and be jetted around the world and walk the red carpets in France looking perfect and relaxed, and still be considered a wonderful mom. Since none of their realities are related to us in any way, why does the media keep making this such a huge deal? I just don’t get it? Is anything sacred anymore?

The worst part is that many celebrities are riding the wave of baby bump mania. It was reported (i’m not sure if it’s true) that Z-list celebrity couple Heidi Montag and her equally femine looking partner Spencer were planning on faking a pregnancy for publicity in the next season of The Hills. Supposedly they thought this would give them more press and help their “careers”. Unfortunately someone dropped a bomb and tipped off the press and their little happy family idea is now just a huge embarrassing joke.

In no way I have anything against celebrities get knocked up, and I understand that it’s not totally their fault if the media and paparazzi follows them around and calculates their every move. I just wish this whole nonsense of baby bumps would end and we could back to gossip and rumors like the old days. I love children, especially my beautiful nephew Joshua, but why should I care so much about rich people having babies?  It’s really starting to annoy me.

Women across the world have babies every single second. For many it’s a special joyous occasion, for some others who live in unbelievable poverty and hopelessness it’s just business as usual. There aren’t any poor African women in the bush paying over a 1.4 million dollars for luxury beds, flat screen tv, and around the clock security guards like J-Lo did when she was about to have her twins. Yes, her delivery costed 1.4 million dollars! The poor women of the world have babies on dirt floors, with no epidural and no hope or support to feed or protect their children for the future. Having a baby is a natural, beautiful and common experience. I don’t want to hear about how Leah Remini forced herself to lose 80 pounds  after having her baby girl because she looked around and noticed that she was the only celeb mom who was still fat 1 year after having her baby. These celebrities make having a child look like the most glamorous project a person can have. They have a kid and 3 weeks later they somehow shed 20-30 pounds and look showroom ready. This is so unhealthy and is very common in this industry. This should be the one time an actress is given the choice to focus on her health and new baby and not have to worry about being called fat because she hasn’t lost the baby weight fast enough.

Celebs don’t have the worries of not being able to find a  a babysitter you can afford, difficulty making time for your child because your working 2 jobs, worrying about finding a place to live because the economy is going down the toilet. These stories about celebrity pregancies once made me curious and now their making me bitter. It’s called overkill!  Women have babies every single day and it shouldn’t be turned into a circus. I am 100% over this baby bump craze, I’m not giving rich celebrities any more credit for doing something that half of the population on this Earth is capable of doing themselves.

It’s true, the baby bump craze is stupid. Big deal, you had a baby.
